Have you often been told, "You're too Sensitive?"…
One of my focus areas in my work is highly sensitive people (HSP). HSP is a personality trait found in approximately 20% of people characterized by a finely attuned nervous system. It is hereditary and it is neither a negative quality nor something one “grows out of” over time. High sensitivity creates a greater capacity for empathy, a heightened awareness of one's surroundings and environment (such as sounds, light, and scents), and a propensity for processing information on a deeper level. In short, if you are highly sensitive you likely find that you feel things more intensely than others do. Being highly sensitive does carry with it inherent challenges, especially in an increasingly overwhelming and fast-paced world. Working with an HSP-trained therapist to learn tools to cope can be a powerful step in harnessing the gifts of your sensitivity. To find out if you may be a highly sensitive person, please take Elaine Aron's self-test.
HSP & Neurodivergence: What You Should Know
There’s ongoing discussion about the connection between high sensitivity and neurodivergence, with some researchers questioning whether HSP may be a subtype of autism. While not all HSPs are neurodivergent, the overlap is significant enough that a nuanced, individualized exploration with a neurodiversity-informed and neurodiversity-affirming therapist can provide valuable insight. This is especially important since autism often presents differently in women and those socialized as female, and many outdated stereotypes about autism only reflect a small subset of the population.
As both an HSP and autism specialist, I can help you explore:
✅ Are you highly sensitive, neurodivergent, or both?
✅ How does your sensitivity impact your daily life and relationships?
✅ What tools and strategies can help you navigate the world with greater ease?
You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone
Whether you’re just beginning to explore your sensitivity or you’ve known for years that you process the world differently, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll create a plan to help you embrace your unique neurotype, reduce overwhelm, and build a life that honors your needs.
